Examples of our projects
The Herttoniemen jäähalli ice rink, completed in the fall of 2023 in the Herttoniemi district on the eastern side of Helsinki, is a multifunctional ice sports center for enthusiasts of ice hockey, figure skating, and other ice sports. We completed the fire engineering design for the building permit phase and the smoke extraction design for the implementation phase of the Herttoniemen jäähalli. The building’s fire safety design was largely based on performance-based fire safety design. Performance-based fire safety design significantly reduced the construction costs and carbon footprint of the Herttoniemen jäähalli ice rink. Katajanokan Laituri, a joint construction project of Varma Mutual Pension Insurance Company and Stora Enso, is a new masterpiece of Finnish wooden construction and a flagship of Finnish architecture. The building will be completed in the summer of 2024 in the South Harbour, Helsinki. Among other things, Stora Enso’s new head office and S Group’s high-end Sokotel hotel will be located in the wooden office building built on the parade ground of a significant cultural environment. In this project, we carried out the fire engineering design. Helsinki upper secondary school of natural sciences is located on the Kumpula science campus of the University of Helsinki. In the flexible spaces of the five-story wooden building, teaching and other activities can be organized for about 900 high school students Since the building’s number of floors, height and planned number of people exceeded the limits of fire class P2, we used performance-based fire safety design, which enabled the building to be implemented in fire class P0. With the fire simulation and the risk analysis based on it, it was possible to proof that five-story school building with a wooden frame is at least as safe as a corresponding traditionally designed P1 fire class school building with load-bearing frame made of non-combustible materials (photo: Jouni Ranta).
